Putting groups together

Grades K–2

The big idea

Addition is putting groups together and counting what you have now.

Think of it like pouring two bowls of berries into one bowl: Two berries plus three berries become one bowl you can count: five berries.

Pour the bowls together

One bowl has 2 berries, another has 3. Pour them into one bowl. Nothing was added or lost; you just put them together. Count the new bowl: 5.

πŸ‘‰ Drag the two groups together, then count the total out loud.
