Bundling into tens

Grades 3–4

The big idea

We bundle ten ones into one ten so big amounts stay easy to hold.

Think of it like rubber-banding ten straws into a bundle: Once you band ten loose straws together, you count bundles instead of a messy pile.

Band the straws

You have 23 loose straws, hard to keep track of. Band ten together, then ten more. Now you hold 2 bundles and 3 loose straws. Much easier.
